Mix Dal


  • Preparation

  • Mixed dal ( Urad, Moong and Chana dal in equal quantity): 1 1/2 cup
  • Onion (chopped): 1 (large)
  • Garlic (chopped): 2 tsp
  • Tomatoes (chopped): 2
  • Green chilles (chopped): 2 (or to taste)
  • Turmeric powder: 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder (optional): 1/2 tsp
  • Oil: 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt: to taste
  • Water: 3 cups
For Tadka (tempering)
  • Desi Ghee (clarified butter) : 1/2 tbsp
  • Asafoetida: a pinch
  • Whole red chillies: 3
  • Cloves:2
  • Black Pepper: 2
  • Bay Leaf: 1/2
  • Cinnamon stick: 1/2
  • Cumin seeds: 1/2 tsp

Method

1. Soak mix dal ( all 3 dals) for one hour.
2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker
3. Put Chopped onions, garlic and green chillies and fry for two mins
4. Add chopped tomatos and fry for a minute.
5. Add dal, turmeric powder, red chilly powder, salt and water.
6. Close the lid & bring to boil on high flame.
7. After 1 whistle, lower the flame & cook for another 25 minutes.
8. Take another pan. Heat desi ghee & add all the ingredients for tempering.
