- Preparation
- Mixed dal ( Urad, Moong and Chana dal in equal quantity): 1 1/2 cup
- Onion (chopped): 1 (large)
- Garlic (chopped): 2 tsp
- Tomatoes (chopped): 2
- Green chilles (chopped): 2 (or to taste)
- Turmeric powder: 1/2 tsp
- Red chilli powder (optional): 1/2 tsp
- Oil: 1/2 tbsp
- Salt: to taste
- Water: 3 cups
- Desi Ghee (clarified butter) : 1/2 tbsp
- Asafoetida: a pinch
- Whole red chillies: 3
- Cloves:2
- Black Pepper: 2
- Bay Leaf: 1/2
- Cinnamon stick: 1/2
- Cumin seeds: 1/2 tsp
Method
1. Soak mix dal ( all 3 dals) for one hour.2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker
3. Put Chopped onions, garlic and green chillies and fry for two mins
4. Add chopped tomatos and fry for a minute.
5. Add dal, turmeric powder, red chilly powder, salt and water.
6. Close the lid & bring to boil on high flame.
7. After 1 whistle, lower the flame & cook for another 25 minutes.
8. Take another pan. Heat desi ghee & add all the ingredients for tempering.
